Meetings

The most recent meeting between Italian and Panamanian authorities took place at the 10th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference in October 2019, when the Deputy Minister Marina Sereni and her homonymous Dayra Carrizo met in Rome.

Moreover, in the last decade, institutional exchanges between the two countries have intensified, starting with the visit of the then Foreign Minister Franco Frattini in 2010, which has embarked on a season of flourishing trade and cooperation in tax and security matters.

After numerous meetings at the highest level during the Martinelli Presidency, including the visit to Panama of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, in 2015 President Juan Carlos Varela met the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, A few months after the meeting between the then Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni and his homonym Isabel Saint Malo on the occasion of the VII Conference Italy-Latin America and the Caribbean.

Lastly, we recall the visit to Panama of the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Sen. Ricardo Merlo in 2018, in order to increase the investment opportunities of Italian companies in Panama also through the activation of a bilateral consultation mechanism and the meeting in October 2019 between the Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio and the then Canciller Alejandro Ferrer, which confirmed the determination of the two countries to further strengthen their bilateral relations in political, economic and cultural terms.
