Doing business in Italy

Italy is the sixth country in the OECD area and the fourth in the European Union by value of gross domestic product. Italian production accounts for more than 13% of EU GDP.
Due to the characteristics of the production structure, the Italian composition by sectors of economic activity is similar to that of the main European countries, with 27.7% of production in manufacturing and construction and with almost 70% in that of services. Within the latter sector, trade, transport and communications absorb a higher share of GDP than the average of European countries.
Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, Italy is a crucial hub for road, sea and air connections between the North and South of Europe.
The Italian market offers countless opportunities to growing companies, with almost 60 million consumers and a GDP that ranks fourth in Europe.
Thanks to its strategic location, Italy can easily reach 396 million consumers in other EU countries and 240 million in North Africa and the Middle East.
It has achieved a leading position (11% of the European market share), with a turnover of about 65 billion euros.
In Europe, Italy ranks first as the country with the lowest cost of establishment for the biotechnology sector, second place for product testing in research and development, in chemistry and electronics.
