{"id":3035,"date":"2023-11-01T15:50:44","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T20:50:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambpanama.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/passaporti-e-carte-didentita\/cie-carta-didentita-elettronica\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T09:36:33","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T14:36:33","slug":"cie-carta-didentita-elettronica","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambpanama.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/passaporti-e-carte-didentita\/cie-carta-didentita-elettronica\/","title":{"rendered":"Electronic identity card &#8211; CIE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The identity card is a personal identification document valid to identify and circulate in the European Union and in some third countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The identity card allows expatriation from Italy to the following countries:<br \/>\nAlbania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt (organized travel only), Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia (organized travel only), Turkey (organized travel only), Hungary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The electronic identity card (<strong>CIE<\/strong>) is the new identity card in card format; in addition to being an identity document, it allows access to the online services of the Italian Public Administrations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>CIE<\/strong> may be issued exclusively to Italian citizens who are regularly resident in this consular district, who are already registered in the consular register and whose personal data are already present in the <strong>A.I.R.E.<\/strong> (Register of Italians Resident Abroad) of the Ministry of the Interior.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"141\" data-end=\"199\"><strong data-start=\"145\" data-end=\"199\">Mandatory Requirements Before Applying for the CIE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"273\"><strong>Be registered in the A.I.R.E. within this Consular District. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"273\"><strong>Be in possession of the birth certificate, properly transcribed in the Civil Status registers of the competent Italian Municipality.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"273\"><strong>Have an up-to-date residential address (see <a href=\"https:\/\/ambpanama.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/a-i-r-e\/\">AIRE<\/a>). <\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"273\"><strong>Please note that once the CIE is issued, it will not be possible to update the address on the card itself. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"273\"><strong>Be in possession of a properly issued fiscal code. If unavailable, the fiscal code must be requested through the FAST IT portal (see <a href=\"https:\/\/ambpanama.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/codice-fiscale\/\">Fiscal Code<\/a>).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"113\" data-end=\"131\"><strong data-start=\"116\" data-end=\"129\">IMPORTANT:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"113\" data-end=\"131\">Citizens <strong data-start=\"142\" data-end=\"258\">already registered in the A.I.R.E. within this Consular District before the implementation of the FAST IT system<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"259\" data-end=\"308\">do not need to register again in the A.I.R.E.<\/strong><br data-start=\"308\" data-end=\"311\" \/>Instead, they must <strong data-start=\"330\" data-end=\"385\">link their FAST IT account to their consular record<\/strong> by following the steps below:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"862\">\n<li data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"516\">\n<p data-start=\"422\" data-end=\"516\"><strong data-start=\"422\" data-end=\"434\">Register<\/strong> on the <strong data-start=\"442\" data-end=\"460\">FAST IT portal<\/strong>, or <strong data-start=\"465\" data-end=\"475\">log in<\/strong> if you already have an active account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"631\">\n<p data-start=\"520\" data-end=\"631\">Select the option <strong data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"578\">\u201cConsular Registration and A.I.R.E.\u201d<\/strong> and then click on <strong data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"628\">\u201cView your personal record\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"632\" data-end=\"743\">\n<p data-start=\"635\" data-end=\"743\">Request the <strong data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"671\">\u201cOnline Association\u201d<\/strong> and wait to receive the <strong data-start=\"696\" data-end=\"720\">confirmation message<\/strong> in your email inbox.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"744\" data-end=\"862\">\n<p data-start=\"747\" data-end=\"862\">Log in again to the <strong data-start=\"767\" data-end=\"785\">FAST IT portal<\/strong>, view your personal record, and <strong data-start=\"818\" data-end=\"859\">download your fiscal code certificate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>1. Temporal validity:\u00a0<\/strong>The validity of the identity card varies depending on the age of the holder:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>3 years for children under 3 years;<\/li>\n<li>5 years for children between 3 and 18 years;<\/li>\n<li>10 years for adults.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>2. Method of request:\u00a0<\/strong>The application for the electronic identity card must be submitted personally by appointment to be made through the portal <a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\">Prenot@mi<\/a>. <strong>NOTE<\/strong>: On the\u00a0Prenot@Mi portal, individual appointments can be booked, as long as they are available. It is clarified that appointments for minors and must be booked directly by one of the parents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\">In the request for appointment for minor children, parents must indicate in the appropriate section reserved to the notes the full name of the child, always in order to allow the consular office to carry out the check of personal data.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>3. Appointment and documents to be submitted:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"160\" data-end=\"202\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong data-start=\"163\" data-end=\"200\">For Citizens Over 18 Years of Age<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-start=\"204\" data-end=\"366\">Italian citizens must <strong data-start=\"226\" data-end=\"280\">appear in person at the Embassy of Italy in Panama<\/strong> by <strong data-start=\"284\" data-end=\"306\">online appointment<\/strong> for the issuance of the CIE via the <strong data-start=\"343\" data-end=\"363\">Prenot@mi portal<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"204\" data-end=\"366\">Valid <strong data-start=\"376\" data-end=\"405\">Italian identity document<\/strong> (passport or still-valid identity card).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"204\" data-end=\"366\">Payment of the <strong data-start=\"466\" data-end=\"498\">consular service fee in cash<\/strong>, pursuant to Article 28A, for the issuance of the identity card, according to the <strong data-start=\"581\" data-end=\"606\">consular fee schedule<\/strong>. <em data-start=\"608\" data-end=\"709\">(Fees are updated quarterly; it is recommended to verify the exact amount before your appointment).<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"718\" data-end=\"761\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong data-start=\"721\" data-end=\"759\">For Citizens Under 18 Years of Age<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"921\">The minor must appear <strong data-start=\"785\" data-end=\"816\">accompanied by both parents<\/strong> at the Embassy of Italy in Panama, by <strong data-start=\"855\" data-end=\"877\">online appointment<\/strong> for the CIE via the <strong data-start=\"898\" data-end=\"918\">Prenot@mi portal<\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"923\" data-end=\"937\">IMPORTANT:<\/strong>Appointments for minors <strong data-start=\"962\" data-end=\"1011\">must be booked directly by one of the parents<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"921\">For applicants aged <strong data-start=\"1038\" data-end=\"1059\">12 years or older<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1061\" data-end=\"1089\">fingerprint registration<\/strong> will be required.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"921\">Valid <strong data-start=\"1118\" data-end=\"1148\">Italian identity documents<\/strong> (passport or identity card) of both parents and the minor.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"921\">For minors <strong data-start=\"1223\" data-end=\"1244\">under 8 years old<\/strong>: <strong data-start=\"1246\" data-end=\"1309\">2 recent frontal photographs, 4\u00d74 cm, on a white background<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"921\">Payment of the <strong data-start=\"1330\" data-end=\"1362\">consular service fee in cash<\/strong>, pursuant to Article 28A, for the issuance of the identity card, according to the <strong data-start=\"1445\" data-end=\"1470\">consular fee schedule<\/strong>. <em data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1573\">(Fees are updated quarterly; it is recommended to verify the exact amount before your appointment).<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"92\" data-end=\"393\">If the CIE is requested by<strong data-start=\"119\" data-end=\"146\"> only one of the parents<\/strong>, it is necessary to bring the <strong>consent document<\/strong> from the absent parent on the day of the appointment. For more information regarding the consent document, please consult the applicable regulations at the following link: <a href=\"https:\/\/ambpanama.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/passaporti-e-carte-didentita\/atto-di-assenso\/\"><strong data-start=\"370\" data-end=\"390\">Act of consent<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-start=\"395\" data-end=\"553\"><strong>In the event of the death of one parent,<\/strong> a copy of the death certificate must be presented (if it is not already on file with this consular office).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"395\" data-end=\"553\">If it is not possible to obtain the consent of the other parent, it will be necessary to request the issuance of a <strong data-start=\"674\" data-end=\"712\">Decree from the Guardianship Judge<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"717\" data-end=\"1001\">During the appointment, the consular officer will take the photograph and, except for minors under 12 years of age, will also record the fingerprints and signature, which will be securely stored within the microchip of the CIE and will not be recorded elsewhere.\u00a0The CIE does not indicate the holder\u2019s marital status or the name of the spouse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>4. Cost: <\/strong>Payment of consular fees must be made in cash on the day of the appointment. Please note that a slightly higher fee applies in the case of a duplicate due to theft or loss.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>5. Delivery of identity card<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>CIE<\/strong> is printed and then delivered by post to this Embassy, by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once the <strong>CIE<\/strong> is received, the consular office will contact the interested parties by email to the e-mail address provided at the time of the appointment request via the portal\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\">Prenot@mi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>6. Discovery of identity cards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Users are informed that identity cards that have been stolen or lost abroad, in case of discovery, are usually returned to the consular offices in whose district the theft or loss occurred.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Therefore, those who have recently suffered a theft\/loss abroad and want to verify if their identity card has been found, should contact this Consular Office for further information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It should be noted that any withdrawal of these documents may take place at the consular office where the discovery took place, in the following ways:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">at the desks of the Consular Office;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>at the request of the person concerned,<\/li>\n<li>by postal service with shipping costs at his expense.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For further information please write to <a href=\"mailto:panama.passaporti@esteri.it\">panama.passaporti@esteri.it<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The identity card is a personal identification document valid to identify and circulate in the European Union and in some third countries.
