{"id":10006,"date":"2026-07-30T09:27:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T14:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambpanama.esteri.it\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/07\/novita-sulla-validita-della-carta-didentita-elettronica-cie-per-i-cittadini-di-eta-pari-o-superiore-a-70-anni\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T09:31:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T14:31:20","slug":"novita-sulla-validita-della-carta-didentita-elettronica-cie-per-i-cittadini-di-eta-pari-o-superiore-a-70-anni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambpanama.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/07\/novita-sulla-validita-della-carta-didentita-elettronica-cie-per-i-cittadini-di-eta-pari-o-superiore-a-70-anni\/","title":{"rendered":"News on the validity of the Electronic Identity Card (CIE) for citizens aged 70 and over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span data-me-change=\"delta\">Please be informed that, following the new provisions, the <\/span><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">Electronic Identity Card (CIE) issued to citizens aged 70 or over at the time of the application will have unlimited validity<\/span><\/strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">, including for purposes of travel abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span data-me-change=\"delta\">Therefore, citizens over 70 years of age who are issued a CIE <\/span><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">as of 30 July 2026<\/span><\/strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\"> will not be subject to periodic renewal of the document.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Exceptions to unlimited validity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span data-me-change=\"delta\">However, the unlimited validity of the CIE does not apply to certain functions of the electronic document.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">Digital identification via CIE<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span data-me-change=\"delta\">For the use of the CIE for digital identification and access to online services, a <\/span><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">ten-year validity period<\/span><\/strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\"> remains applicable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span data-me-change=\"delta\">Citizens aged 70 or over who wish to continue using the CIE for online services, once ten years have elapsed from issuance, must request a new document, after the cancellation of the previously issued CIE.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">Access to electronic airport gates<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span data-me-change=\"delta\">Similarly, for access to <\/span><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">automated electronic gates at airports<\/span><\/strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">, the validity of the electronic component of the CIE remains set at <\/span><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">ten years<\/span><\/strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span data-me-change=\"delta\">After this period, the CIE may still be used for travel abroad, but border crossing will only be possible through <\/span><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">visual inspection of the document<\/span><\/strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\"> by the competent authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span data-me-change=\"delta\">The new provisions apply exclusively to citizens who, <\/span><strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">at the time of applying for the CIE, are 70 years of age or older<\/span><\/strong><span data-me-change=\"delta\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For further information, please consult the following link: <a href=\"https:\/\/ambpanama.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/passaporti-e-carte-didentita\/cie-carta-didentita-elettronica\/\">Electronic identity card \u2013 CIE \u2013 Ambasciata d&#8217;Italia Panama<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Please be informed that, following the new provisions, the Electronic Identity Card (CIE) issued to citizens aged 70 or over at the time of the application will have unlimited validity, including for purposes of travel abroad.
