Cultural diplomacy

In recent years, Italy and Panama have strengthened bilateral cooperation in the cultural field, within the framework of the Agreement of Cultural and Scientific Cooperation between the Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of the Republic of Panama, signed in Rome on May 2, 2007.

Within this context, academic cooperation has been primarily strengthened through agreements between various Italian and Panamanian universities (most recently, the agreement between the University of Siena and the Universidad de Panamá, and between La Sapienza University and the Universidad Tecnologica de Panamá).

Particular emphasis is placed on the collaboration between the Santa Cecilia Conservatory and the Ministry of Culture of Panama. In this regard, the prestigious Roman conservatory provides a significant number of scholarships each year, allowing talented young Panamanian musicians to pursue their studies at one of the most prestigious conservatories in our country.

Despite the absence of an Italian Cultural Institute, in recent years, there have been cultural events organized (concerts, exhibitions, film festivals) aimed at promoting various artistic expressions of our country. Particularly notable for their quality and quantity of events are the Italian Language Week in the World (October), Italian Design Day (March), as well as activities organized during the Republic Day and other important celebrations.

The Embassy’s final task is to promote Italian culture and language, with particular attention to the dissemination of Italian, the knowledge of which is the most important vehicle to approach the country’s culture.

The Embassy also provides the following services to Panamanian citizens:

Cultural information about the educational and training system in Italy;
Procedures related to the enrollment of Panamanian citizens in Italian universities (the service is aimed at students with secondary school qualifications);
Management and information regarding scholarships offered by the Italian Government;
Statements of value for various academic qualifications obtained in Panama for students going to Italy.

Detailed information for those wishing to continue their education in Italy is available in the dedicated section.
