A mandatory requirement is that at least one of the two spouses must be an Italian citizen residing in the district of the Italian Embassy in Panama and duly registered with AIRE.
If an Italian citizen and resident in Panama intends to marry in Italy, he/she may apply to the Italian Embassy in Panama for the banns by going to the Embassy during public opening hours and making a consular appointment (requested directly at the following e-mail address: consolare.panama@esteri.it) presenting the following documents
- birth certificate and free state certificate in original for the Italian citizen. Alternatively, the Italian citizen may present a self-certification where he declares his place and date of birth and his civil status;
- a birth and marital status certificate apostilled and translated into Italian, the translation of which is accompanied by the apostille of the translator’s signature for the foreign bride/groom;
- the request for publications (art. 3 of the consular rights table) with both bride and groom present, who must sign it at the Italian Embassy in Panama.
The publications will be posted on the consular notice board of the Embassy and on the notice board of the Italian municipality to which they belong (the Embassy will request this).
When the publications have expired, the ‘Certificate of publications’ (Art. 2C consular fees table) and the ‘Authorisation to celebrate the marriage’ (Art. 2B consular fees table) will be sent to the Municipality where the marriage will take place.
