Register a Birth

The Italian parent, by appointment to the Consular Services, may request the transcript, exclusively, of the birth certificate of the minor child, making the required documentation for this purpose. For the transcription of birth records of adults, the person concerned must request an appointment “Citizenship by descent – for children of age”

REGISTER A BIRTH

The children of Italian citizens resident in Panama, or at least one of them, are Italian citizens and the birth must be transcribed in Italy.

In the event that both parents are Italian and belong to or reside in different municipalities – unless otherwise agreed between them – the birth certificate will be transcribed at the municipality of reference of the mother.

Where to request the service:

a). presenting the interested Italian citizen at the Embassy of Italy in Panama, booking an appointment for “Consular Services” through the portal  Prenota@mi ;

b). addressing directly to its Municipality of registration A.I.R.E. (in this case it is necessary to contact the Municipal Civil Status Office).

I. Documents to be submitted for children born in Panama

a). Form request for a transcript, duly completed (signature before the official);

b). Full original birth integral certificate, issued by the “Tribunal Electorar”, bearing the Apostille issued by the  Ministero degli Affari Esteri di Panama.; (with a date of issue not exceeding six months)

c). Original translation of the deed duly accompanied by the apostille of the translation. Note: we do not accept digitally signed translations;

d). Original identity document of the child and parents and simple photocopy;

e). Photocopies of parents’ identity documents;

All documents must be original and photocopied (legible).

NOTE: If the parents are married, it is ESSENTIAL that the marriage is registered in Italy. If the parents are not married, it is ESSENTIAL that both parents, together with the minor, attend the Consular Chancellery of the Embassy of Italy to sign the act of recognition for a child born out of wedlock. Please note that the recognition document mentioned above costs EUR 20, which must be paid in USD and in cash, according to the current exchange rate.

Otherwise, the registration of the birth will not be possible.

II. Documents to be submitted for children born in other countries

a). Form request for a transcript, duly completed (signature before the official);

b). Birth certificate “full” or “extended” according to the mode of issue of each country in original issued by the competent authority from the country of birth; (with date of issue not exceeding six months). US certificates must always be in the extended format (so-called Long Form or Extended Form that shows the exact place of birth, date or age and place of birth of the parents), according to the way these certificates are issued in each state.

c). Apostille of the original Act issued by the competent Authority in the country of origin;

d). Translation of the original document duly accompanied by the apostille of the translation. Note: we do not accept digitally signed translations;

e). Photocopies of parents’ identity documents;

All documents must be original and photocopied (legible).

NOTE: If the parents are married, it is ESSENTIAL that the marriage is registered in Italy. Otherwise, the registration of the birth will not be possible.

The Embassy will send an e-mail to the person concerned on the actual transmission of the files to the competent authority. It is therefore not necessary to ask for information on the status of the file as the responsibility of other authorities.
