The Italian Embassy in Panama provides assistance and advice in the case of repatriation of the bodies or ashes of Italian citizens who have died in Panama.
Please note that the first step is to send the death of your compatriot’s documents to the competent Italian municipality.
In order to obtain the mortuary passport, the applicant (family member or person delegated in writing with a copy of the identification document) must present, without appointment, at the Embassy of Italy in Panama and produce the following documentation:
- Request of family members to this Embassy, for repatriation of ashes, with indication of the burial municipality/ destination in Italy (in simple letter)
- Death certificate (“integral” act of death) apostilled, translated into Italian and with apostillated translation; (this for the purposes of transcribing his father’s death to the Italian Municipality)
- Original declaration of the funeral company, certifying that all (the whole procedure) has been carried out/to according to the hygienic-sanitary and that the ashes contained in the’ urn correspond to the/the deceased/s;
- Booking of the flight with which the urn will be repatriated to Italy;
- Finally, for the issue of the funeral passport by this Embassy, payment of the Art 66h of the table of consular rights (45 dollars, in cash);
Once the documentation is received, the Embassy will request the authorization of the Italian City Council for the burial of the body or ashes and will proceed to issue a Death Certificate that must travel with the body (or with the ashes).
