If you are in an emergency situation (for example, as transit tourists you have to leave and you have lost or you have been robbed of your passport) and you have no way or time to apply for a new passport, Embassy can issue a temporary travel document called E.T.D. (Emergency Travel Documents)
- The document is not valid for a trip to or from the United States of America,
- It is a document that only applies to the return trip to Italy (or in the country where you reside permanently).
Where to apply for the ETD?
- presenting the Italian citizen at the Embassy of Italy in the opening time slot to the public, in other instances the interested party may contact us at the following telephone number (+507) 6942 7852, The mobile phone, EXCLUSIVELY for emergencies, is active from Monday to Friday from 15.30 to 22.00, Saturday and Sunday from 08.00 to 22.00.
The applicant must report to the Embassy in Panama by submitting the following documentation:
- report of loss or theft of passport or other travel document previously made to the local authorities, made to the Consulate pursuant to articles 46 and 47 and with the warnings referred to in art. 76 of D.P.R. 445/2000;
- N.2 photographs (equal, front, color, white background, size 3.5 cm x 4 cm);
- travel document;
- payment in dollars of the cost of the document (currently equal to € 1.55 but it is important to consult the consular fees that change quarterly) and any shipping costs if the person cannot go personally to collect the document.

NOTE: On pre-summer and public holidays this form of assistance could be precluded because of the closure of the Offices themselves and deferred – except in situations of proven emergency – to the first working day.
The Honorary Consulates are not entitled to issue the ETD, but are limited to the transmission of applications to the Embassy of Italy in Panama and to receive the document once prepared. The costs of sending the documentation and sending the personalised ETD by the Consular Office shall be borne by the applicant.
