Family reunification visa for children

What it is for and who can apply for it:

It is used for family reintegration between parents (foreign nationals legally residing in Italy) and minor children residing in pana.

The procedure begins in Italy, where the parent applies for family reunification at the Prefecture territorially competent for the minor child. Once the Prefecture has issued the Nulla Osta, the minor can apply for a visa.

The visa can be applied for three months before the date of travel and up to 1 month before the date of travel.

Type of visa: “D” Long-stay visa, for stays longer than 90 days up to 365 days.

REQUIREMENTS: Must be submitted following the strict order below:

  1. National visa application form duly completed in all fields and signed.
  2. Two photographs (3,5 cm x 4 cm), white background in color (identical and recent), one of which must be pasted to the form in the corresponding box.
  3. Valid passport (valid for at least 3 months beyond the duration of the visa) with at least two free pages and a plain copy of the passport (only the page of the passport containing the holder’s personal information).
  4. Payment of consular fees in cash (they are paid on the day of the appointment, see Consular Fees Table )
  5. ID card – for foreigners cédula de extranjería or carne de residencia, valid (in both cases only an enlarged, legible copy).
  6. Original and cpia of the “Nulla Osta” issued by the Prefecture – U.I. (Single Desk for Immigration).
  7. Birth certificate of the child applying for the visa – must be submitted in original and copy along with the apostille issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin.
  8. Italian translation of the birth certificate accompanied by the Apostille of the translator’s signature.
  9. Marriage deed of the parents, (if there is a marriage). Must be submitted in original and copy together with the apostille issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin.
  10. Written authorization from the parent residing in Panama or in one of the states of accreditation, confirming that the minor is authorized to travel and reside in Italy. The authorization must be issued by the competent authorities or to the juvenile judge (Apostilled and translated in original and copy). Alternatively, in case both parents are in Italy, the authorization must be issued before one of the Consulates of their country operating in Italy (Original and copy). In all cases bring the original – which will be returned – and the copy, which will be kept in the Embassy’s archives.
    Important: It is essential that the words “country exit…. and residence…” appear on the travel authorization. If it does not appear, the visa application will not be accepted.
  11. Parental authorization to apply for a visa for a minor. Authorization must be given before a notary’s office (or juvenile judge). If both parents are in Italy, the authorization must be issued before one of their country’s consulates operating in Italy (original and copy). In any case, bring the original – which will be returned – and the copy, which will be kept in the Embassy’s archives.
  12. Minors traveling alone (who must also be present at the interview) must be accompanied by a duly authorized adult with a power of attorney legalized by the competent authorities (original and copy).
  13. Booking a one-way flight with final destination Italy on behalf of the applicant. NOTE: Airline reservations must be made directly by the airline or a travel agency in the country of residence or directly in Italy (reservations made online are not accepted).

NOTES:

  • The procedure is strictly personal. The Embassy has not authorized any agency or intermediary to apply for the visa.
  • Please note that the Visa Office cannot receive the visa application until the Embassy receives the Nulla Osta transmitted by the U.I. Office (Prefecture in Italy).
  • Please note that the “Nulla Ostais valid for 6 months (from the date of issuance of the U.I.) and must be used before it expires. The Embassy may receive visa applications from people who have just reached the age of majority, as long as the “Nulla Osta” was issued before the age of 18.
  • Failure to submit any of the above documents may result in the rejection of the visa application at the counter. The Embassy of Italy reserves the right to request such additional documentation as it deems necessary through the document called “Rejection Notice,” which may be issued a few days after reviewing the visa application.
  • Since the visa is a concession, even if all the required documents are submitted, it can be granted or In the latter case, a “Denial Order” will be issued.
  • If the visa is granted, the holder, upon arriving in Italy, must apply for a Permesso di Soggiorno from the relevant Italian authorities within the first eight working days.
